October 2, 2023 Misfit Monday Post: Misfit Monday!! Last year at the 1st dahlia show I ever went to I fell head over heels in love with BADGER TWINKLE! The color! The name!! Flawless to me! Then Miraculously I was able to score a tuber and a cutting to grow this year. At 1st I wasn't overly impressed but as the year went on it got better and better! This last weekend at the North Central Washington Dahlia Society show in Wenatchee I was able to recreate the triple I fell in love with and it almost went to the head table! Literally 1 petal away! But I am still very happy with almost lol. And even more happy with this variety. BADGER TWINKLE is a Miniature Semi-cactus Dark Blend that was introduced in 2005 by John Thiermann of JT Dahlias. BADGER TWINKLE is John's most well known variety but he also introduced 3 other "Badger" dahlias along with 5 other dahlias of various names. And possibly more not listed in the ADS. He was also the North American agent for Penhill Dahlias and was responsible for bringing many overseas varieties to the US. He was also a member of the classification committee for the ADS and served on the board of the Midwest Dahlia Conference. Sadly John passed away in 2018 but his memory lives on in his creations.
